The Natural History Museum’s “First Fridays” series is something dreams are made of. When musical acts (such as Kid Sister/A-Trak, Plants and Animals, and Akron/Family) strut their stuff in a dark room filled with decades old taxidermied animals, you know something must be right. The April 3rd edition was of the same caliber you would expect from such an amazing group. Busdriver is a local hero so his set can be left unsaid. There were a couple surprises, though.
TIM FITE

Tim Fite’s usage of synths, samples, computers, and video along with an energetic live performance was a sight to be seen (and heard).
LUCKY DRAGONS

After Tim Fite’s set, word was going around about “a bunch of kids playing electronic instruments in the gem room.” Now I know you all don’t know me yet, but I fucking love electronic instruments. To my dismay they would not let me bring a drink into the room so I sent a friend as a scout to see what all the commotion was all about. He came back and said “It’s just a bunch of kids hitting rocks together.” After this comment I heard a swell of synth/ambient delight from the room, handed him my beer, and went in on my own.
To my delight I found a scene similar to the picture above, but with a handful of kids hitting rocks together. Lucky Dragons w/kids in the gem room. Where else?
TWO BIRDS! Support your local museum and local bands in one go! Drink an Amstel Light in front of a T. Rex or go balls out and buy a bottle of wine and hang near vulture rock! Listen to BUSDRIVER and TIM FITE in front of stuffed mammoths in Mammal Hall! Where else but Los Angeles?
You’ll see me there.
Here, check out Busdriver while you’re here:

Apparently built by boy scouts long ago.
If only one good thing comes out of the birth of this website it is my reconnection with all of my old audio archives. Here is one I created when I first got my hands on Protools, Reason, and Ableton Live.

I play cello with Karin and The One Second Time Machine. We utilize electronics, synths, and loops to create a beautiful mess you will probably enjoy. Come and check us out at the Echo on April 10.
We are playing with Seasons and the Hectors (both extremely great LA bands)

Here we have another set from Andrew Carter on 90.1 WRUV FM Burlington from October 7, 2005. Once again, sit through the spillover from the previous show (women ranting) and definitely sit through the set. It is around the time when I figured out I could play numerous songs at the same time and make it sound at least semi-cool. It is also near halloween and that is a great time to be in Vermont.
