I will eventually get my old family 8mm films professionally transferred to digital, but for now I am stuck with video cameras and abstract editing techniques.
Andrew Carter – Make Her Happy
Maybe its this sick track I’ve been listening to all morning or the sunshine blazing on my raggedy back yard but I think it is going to be a fun weekend in LA… and we need it.

I think its a mix of this book I’m reading and the script that Kyp Malone’s doppelgänger pitched to me at Peet’s (about space garbagemen in the future, who are extremely intelligent and have developed a way to accelerate decomposition to minutes, which soon after gets stolen by the government… shenanigans ensue) but I have been thinking about space a lot. Hell, there’s probably a ton of reasons, and I also always think about space a lot.

If you are in the LA area over this upcoming weekend, please comeout to the Echoplex in Echo Park to support an onslaught of rad local musicians.

I swear it will be a party.

Welcome to Crap I Build pt.2. I am starting to get a lot better at these things. If you email me I will tell you exactly how it was built it so water doesn’t leak, and how its light enough to be mounted on your wall, but I’d rather not post too much info here in case someone is looking for ideas. Don’t steal my idea, I will sue you.
Of course, if you want to build one for yourself, thats fine and I’d love to help.
This one is 2’3″ x 3’1″ and about 7-8″ wide. If you like it and live in the greater Los Angeles area, you can have it for a severely discounted price, as long as you promise to take care of it. This is the first generation of these types of eco-paintings, and there are already plans for a few more with increased functionality and irrigation control… so keep posted.
This painting has non-edible rosemary and pink clover for the “ground cover” and common ivy for the sides. Eventually the ivy will climb around the frame, and help absorb indoor air pollutants.

Before I wired the ivy up… it now climbs the frame rather than bulging out at the corners.

Close Up
In the future I plan on using different material for holding the plants in… The mesh I used is good in certain instances, but it is very difficult with groundcover such as these. It also doesn’t look as great as I want it to. Any recommendations are welcome, and once again if you want this or another one built for you please feel free to email andrew@lesauvageamerican.com
Thanks to John Hogan and Anna Oxygen I have a new/old Casio PT-50. Add a Speak and Spell and some beer and you have quite a night:

I’ll probably be sleeping or going farmers market hopping Sunday, but who really knows.
Have a good one out there.
In case you didn’t know this already, I like plants. All kinds of plants. I also like old things. All kinds of old things. Luckily I have many of these things at my disposal, so I decided to build a vertical garden/painting. This is a small model with a jenky frame just to work out the kinks before I attempt larger “paintings.” The design is very simple: Picture frame, few planks of wood, waterproofing varnish, vinyl sheet for water retention, plastic mesh to hold the plants in, and… plants. Here I used Blue Festuca which I believe is a California native.

I plan on building more that have more of a household function, mainly focusing on indoor air quality and food production. There’s access through the top for watering and it hangs straight. If you want one, let me know. Chances are I’ll do it for free.

Straight out of Brooklyn comes a new track from our favorite KUATO. Mixing the Disco Biscuits into something like this is quite a task, so listen. enjoy. Kuato.
